What is the GRE?
The GRE is officially organised by Educational Testing Services (ETS). ETS develops, administers, and scores the test on behalf of institutions that use it for admissions decisions.
The GRE revised General Test was introduced in August 2011 and is widely recognised as one of the leading graduate admission tests for students seeking admission to universities worldwide.
Why Universities Require It
Universities require applicants who are seeking admission to graduate and business schools to submit a GRE score. The test gives admissions committees a common measure to compare candidates from different educational backgrounds and countries.
Test Structure
The GRE revised General Test is built around three core sections:
- Analytical Writing — measures critical thinking and analytical writing skills.
- Verbal Reasoning — assesses reading comprehension and reasoning from written material.
- Quantitative Reasoning — evaluates basic mathematical skills and the ability to reason quantitatively.
